Elected and co-opted on to various Executive Committees of London University and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and lead author of reports.

Royal Society of Medicine Council Member, Psychiatry Section, and representative to NICE. Previous Royal College representative to the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry.

Author or editor of 5 books, including a textbook (2 editions) which was recommended reading by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and Editor in Chief for Bailliere’s Clinical Psychiatry series (11 vols). Publications include many book chapters and about 150 peer reviewed Scientific papers, and Editorials, including publications on anxiety, depression and psychiatric reactions to stress.

Invited presentations at foreign meetings and institutions, and British Medical Schools and Universities.

Prize adjudicator at the Royal Society of Medicine. Previous member of London University Examination Committee. Royal College of Psychiatrists examiner and PhD Examiner at Manchester University.

Initiated and ran courses for the British Postgraduate Federation at 3 Teaching Hospitals and for the Medical Research Council, video teaching material and a rating scale prepared for the W.H.O.

Past referee for several psychiatric journals, and the British Medical Journal; currently Medicine, Science and the Law.

Member Editorial Board, British Journal of Medical Practitioners.

Invited advisor to Parliamentary Committees and the Law Commission on Consultation papers. Several reported cases.

Instructions received from Germany, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Norway, where I was an appointed expert to the Crown Court, Oslo. Instructed by the Metropolitan Police, the Official Solicitor, the Treasury Solicitor, the Serious Fraud Office, Department of Public Prosecutions in England and also the Channel Islands, the Royal College of Nursing, the Medical Defence Society, the Medical Protection Society, the NHS Litigation Authority and individual NHS trusts, and given invited advice to the General Medical Council and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Founder member of the Expert Witness Institute and on the Law Society’s panel of experts.

Recognised by the General Medical Council under the European Specialist Medical Qualification Order 1995.
