Rich pursued his degree in Recreation & Leisure Administration at San Diego State University
and went on to receive an Adult School Teaching Certificate. He has taught at community
colleges, in adult education programs, National Aquatic Schools and has over 25 years of
professional teaching experience in public pool operator's courses. He has been certified as a
National Swimming Pool Foundation "CPO" instructor for over 13 years and helped develop and
write the National Recreation & Park Association "AFO" course.

Experience:
Richard (Rich) Young founded Aquatic Commercial Industries (ACI) in 1983 as a
swimming pool equipment manufacturer and specialty swimming pool contractor. He
remains the owner and general manager. As requests for special design work and facility
evaluations by various agencies, contractors, designing engineers and architects
increased, Rich developed Aquatic Commercial Consulting (ACC) in 1992. Since then,
ACC has consulted on hundreds of public, institutional, commercial and high-end
residential pool and water park facilities throughout the nation and abroad.

Richard Young is the principal with over thirty years of public, institutional, commercial
and residential pool experience. Rich completed his studies in Recreation
Administration at San Diego State University and has completed additional engineering
and hydraulic design studies. He continues to pursue educational opportunities to stay on
the cutting edge of the industry. He is well versed in California Health & Safety Codes,
California Building Codes (related to pools), OSHA, Uniform Fire Code (Article 80),
Federal VGB and ADA laws, American Red Cross lifeguard guidelines and industry
standards, Federal Pool and Spa Safety legislation and law for public pools in addition
to aquatic staffing qualifications.

Prior to 1983, as an aquatic director and manager, Rich operated several public and
commercial facilities with both programming and maintenance responsibilities. Since
then, he has continued to consult for public, municipal and commercial aquatic facilities
on community aquatic need assessments, aquatic program evaluation and development.

In addition, Rich worked as a sales, installation and service technician for pool
mechanical systems and works as a mechanical equipment supplier and is a licensed
contractor in several states. He has been an instructor for both the National Swimming
Pool Foundation’s “Certified Pool Operator Course” since the early 1980s and has
helped develop and teach the National Recreation and Park Association’s “Aquatic
Facility Operator Course”. He is the managing editor of the 6th edition, NRPA, Aquatic
Facility Operator Training Manual. This manual concepts of aquatic facility planning
and programming. Rich is now developing a new industry course and book for county
and state health officials “The Aquatic Facility Inspector”. Rich has also recently
completed work on the national “Aquatic Facility Inspector”, manual and course.

Rich often speaks at regional and national aquatic, swimming pool and recreation
association conferences and has been published over thirty times in various pool industry
periodicals and training texts on swimming pool/spa water treatment, safety and
construction issues.

Richard Young is a State of California licensed contractor with thirty years of
experience(also licensed for work in Nevada and Idaho)He is not a licensed engineer or
architect. However, ACC has available for consultation: Pacific Engineering
(electrical), Pool Engineer’s Inc. (structural), Kukuchi & Associates (landscape) and
Patrell Engineering Works (mechanical) for special problem engineering and approval
and sign-off on plans when appropriate or necessary. He often works supporting
architectural and engineering firms. ACC has two administrative assistants and
additional outside pool professionals to aid in both field and office work loads.
